Today the New England Patriots announced that they have parted ways with wide receiver Michael Jenkins.
Jenkins this past off-season signed with the team after spending time with the Minnesota Vikings the past 2 seasons. While in Minnesota, Jenkins did not make a huge impact when he came to the team after a very successful 7 seasons in Atlanta.
The Minnesota Vikings this offseason decided not to renew the contract of Michael Jenkins heavily due to the depth at the wide receiver position and the downfall of his performance. The Vikings got stronger at the receiver position when the emergence of Jerome Simpson, the signing of Greg Jennings and the drafting of Cordarrelle Patterson.
The New England Patriots took a shot with Jenkins and allowed him to run with the first team hoping to see what the 10-year NFL veteran has but he quickly fell on the depth chart falling behind Kenbrell Thompkins & Aaron Dobson on the depth chart. With the declining performance at camp with New England the team and Jenkins cut ties together and parted ways.
It will be a very small market for Michael Jenkins during free agency but we do expect for him to provide depth for a team looking for it in 2013.
